It's time

I'm glad my blog has achieved more than most blogs ever will. But unfortunately, times have changed, and i have officially decided to end www.czsportsnews.blogspot.com. It will still be up, but no more posts. I haven't had the time to post anything, and i missed some very important sports moments of possibly the year. But don't worry! This may not be the last of me, as i hope some time in the future i can start a blog that reflects on not sports, but just about everything. Thanks for reading my blog!

CARDINALS WIN THE WORLD SERIES!!!!!!!!

Celebrate!
The Cardinals win Game 7 of the World Series! This game was a little bit less exciting the Game six, but this still didn't disappoint. David Freese was the MVP, without question. He had a hitting streak, and hit the Walk-Off in Game 6. The Cardinals could have missed the playoffs if The Atlanta Braves didn't go into their slump. As for the Texas Rangers, this is the second straight year they fell short. All they can do is improve their roster, and try next season. However, congrats to all the teams who did make the playoffs, and especially the Brewers and the Diamondbacks. They weren't very good a season ago, and making the playoffs shows that they won't lay at the bottom.

Happy Belated Birthday to my blog!

I forgot my blog's birthday was October 25th. Since it is the 28th, now its a belated birthday. Also, the blog is nearing 6000 pageviews! A Double Whammy!

Indy 500 Winner Dan Wheldon dies after car crash

Dan Wheldon, the Indy 500 winner, passed away after a horrific 15 car pile-up at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Drivers did become concerned after some cars reached speeds over 220 miles an hour. In addition, the field of cars was 34, larger than other races. Dario Franchitti won the championship, but that was completely overshadowed by the crash. J.R. Hildebrand, the driver who lost the Indy 500 to Wheldon, was also hospitalized with a concussion. Will Power, who was Dario Franchitti's greatest contender, was also involved in the crash. This was the last race for Danica Patrick, who will be moving to the Nationwide Series in NASCAR full-time and a few Sprint Cup races. Wheldon will be remembered in IndyCar and elsewhere in the sports world.

10/8/11

MLB Postseason

The NLCS and ALCS are set! The Brewers defeated the Diamondbacks 3-2 in extra innings. Nyjer Morgan drove in the game-winning run in the 10th inning, moving the Brewers into the NLCS. They will take on the St. Louis Cardinals, who defeated Roy Halladay 1-0. Ryan Howard struggled, and went down with an injury after he grounded out to end the game.Chris Carpenter was phenomenal, giving up a few hits only. In the AL, the Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Yankees, and will take on the Texas Rangers. Here are the brackets and my predictions

DETROIT 2, TEXAS 4 (games)

MILWAUKEE 4, ST. LOUIS 3

9/29/11

MLB Playoff Clinchers

The Tampa Bay Rays clinch the AL Wild-card spot! The Red Sox lost 4-3 to the Baltimore Orioles. Evan Longoria had 2 home runs as the Rays beat the Yankees 8-7. At the beginning of September, the Rays were 9 games behind the Red Sox. But after the Red Sox's slump, the Rays tool advantage of that.

In the NL, the Braves blow an 8and a half game lead of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Braves lost to the Phillies when Hunter Pence drove in the game-winning run. This is just as disappointing as the Red Sox, as no one could have predicted the Cardinals or the Rays would overtake the wildcard leaders. But congrats to both teams, as they look to reach the World Series.

Fantasy Week 3 Recap and Fantasy Winners+Losers

I know i didn't do Week 2. So I'll make it up and do Week 3! So let's go review the best games of Week 3

Buffalo Bills 34, New England Patriots 31

The Bills and the Lions are the two teams that have come back from a horrid season to be undefeated. No one would have predicted the Bills would have started the season undefeated. Ryan Fitzpatrick is the leader of this team, and young talent is with him. The Bill's defense was good too, intercepting Tom Brady 4 times. Brady had 4 just all of last season.

Fantasy Winners: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Wes Welker, Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski
Fantasy Losers: None

Carolina Panthers 16, Jacksonville Jaguars 10

Blaine Gabbert got his first start, but it wasn't in the best condition. During the second quarter, rain poured down, and made the field slippery, and really muddy. But he played well despite all the mess with 139 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. But Cam Newton shined again, throwing the game-winning TD to Greg Olsen, the former Chicago Bear.

Fantasy Winners: Greg Olsen, Cam Newton, Maurice Jones-Drew
Fantasy losers: None

Detroit Lions 26, Minnesota Vikings 23

The Detroit Lions keep rolling, winning all 4 preseason games and the first 3 regular season games. The Minnesota Vikings dominate the first half, but have blown it all as they lost all 3 games they played. The Vikings should be using Adrian Peterson more often, as he is incredibly strong, fast, agile, and powerful.

Fantasy Winners: Calvin Johnson Jr., Matthew Stafford
Fantasy losers: Adrian Peterson

Dallas Cowboys 18, Washington Redskins 16

Tony Romo had a punctured lung after the 49ers game. He played well against the Redskins, despite all the bad snaps. He had 255 yards and an interception. Most of this game was field goals, besides 2 touchdowns.

Fantasy Winners: Sean Lee, Felix Jones
Fantasy Losers: None

9/25/11

The Bills on a tear?!

Ok, somethings wrong here. How on earth are the Buffalo Bills (Yes, the Buffalo Bills) 3-0? It almost defies football (no offense). Beating New England really makes a statement. This young team came from the dumps to leading the AFC East. Ryan Fitzpatrick emerged in week 1, and hasn't faded since. The Bills might make their first playoff push in over a decade.

Ryan Fitzpatrick

MLB Playoff clinchers

3 teams have recently clinched their divisions, and a spot in the playoffs. Let's look at how each team reached this point

Arizona Diamondbacks- Last season they had the 3rd-worst record in MLB. Now they rocketed to the top of the standings, clinching over last year's World Champions, the San Francisco Giants. Some players were key to this run, including possible Cy Young winner Ian Kennedy. Kennedy had 20 wins, a 2.88 ERA,194 strikeouts, and a 1.08 WHIP. Justin Upton was a force on offense, leading his team in AVG, HR, Runs, and OPS.

Milwaukee Brewers- Last season they had a losing record and were third in the division. This year, they are officially on top. However, one of their big powerhouses, Prince Fielder, says he doesn't want to return to Milwaukee. But Ryan Braun seems to be staying, as he will look to hit 30+ home runs again. Acquiring Zack Greinke from the Royals was the smartes thing they've done for the 2011 campaign. Also, their home games have been dominant as well.

Texas Rangers- Losing Cliff Lee seemed to be a big blow to the Rangers. It seemed to have the opposite effect. C.J. Wilson has emerged, with a 2.97 ERA, 16 wins, and 206 strikeouts. The trio of Ian Kinsler, Michael Young, and Josh Hamilton are dominant, each leading their team in some way. The Rangers hope to reach the World Series again, but this time, they plan on winning it.

9/19/11

NASCAR

Tony Stewart wins the first race of the Chase at Chicagoland Speedway! Tony Stewart had some struggles during the regular season, but now he has shown that he did not wear off or waste a Chase spot. Kevin Harvick is now 1st in the points, after he finished 2nd. Tony Stewart is now 2nd in the points, and Carl Edwards is 3rd in the points. Kurt Busch is 4th after finishing 6th. Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin dropped out of the top 10 after issues during the race.

NFL Week One Recap +Fantasy Winners+ Disappointments

Let's recap the best games from Week 1.

Buffalo 41, Kansas City 7

Who would have thought the Buffalo Bills would blow out a team that made the playoffs? Ryan Fitzpatrick and Scott Chandler connected a few times and scored unexpected amounts of fantasy points. If the Bills continue to play like this, the New York Jets and the New England Patriots better watch out.

Fantasy Winners: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Scott Chandler
Fantasy Losers: Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe
Arizona 28, Carolina 21

We couldn't wait to see Cam Newton play for the first time. And boy, did he show some talent, throwing for 422 yards and 2 touchdowns. He scored 30+ points in my fantasy league, and Steve Smith put up big numbers as well. But this was overshadowed, as Kevin Kolb led the Cardinals to victory.
Fantasy Winners:Can Newton, Steve Smith
Fantasy Losers: Larry Fitzgerald, DeAngelo WIlliams
New England 38, Miami 24

Both Tom Brady and Chad Henne had very big nights. Brady put up 517 yards, 4 TD's, and Henne had 416 and 2 TD's. Wes Welker had a record night, tying the longest reception in the NFL, 99 yards and he scored twice.
Fantasy Winners: Tom Brady, Wes Welker, Chad Henne
Fantasy Losers: New England Defense, Brandon Marshall, Miami Dolphins Defense

Houston 34, Indianapolis 7

It was a blowout for the Peyton Manning-less Colts. Houston took the advantage of the opportunity, and it was a big one. Even though the Texans were without Arian Foster, Ben Tate carried the load, with 24 carries for 116 yards. Andre Johnson had 7 catches for 95 yards.
Fantasy Winners: Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson
Fantasy losers: Joseph Addai

9/11/11

5th. Carl Edwards
5th. Kurt Busch

NFL Regular Season PREVIEW

NFC NORTH

Green Bay Packers- Having won a game already, Green Bay is looking like champs. They did lose Cullen Jenkins on defense, and they only re-signed 3 players. But change wasn't necessary for the reigning Super Bowl Champions, as they look to defend that feat. Record- 13-3

Detroit Lions- The Lions were dismal in the first decade of the 2000's. But now the future looks bright, as Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson Jr., Jahvid Best, and Ndamukong Suh look to bring the Lions from the bottom up. Being able to draft Nick Fairley in the draft was Christmas for the Lions. They did go 4-0 in the pre-season. If Stafford can stay healthy, watch out for the hungry Lions. Record- 9-7

Chicago Bears- Nothing much to say here. Just hope Jay Cutler can minimize his interceptions and Matt Forte can carry the ball far. Record- 8-8

Minnesota Vikings- Wow, someone younger at QB this season. Donovan McNabb has seen 3 places in the past 3 seasons. Adrian Peterson is the leader of this offense, and Jared Allen on defense. But there is no one to help them out, so the Vikings may miss the playoffs this season. Record- 6-11

9/5/11

Fantasy Football!

Well, I drafted players for my fantasy team, and I have to say, its really good considering that I've never done fantasy before! So here is my players for both offense and defense.

NFL Regular Season PREVIEW

NFC EAST

Philadelphia Eagles- Acquiring many good players over the offseason led many people to dub them as the "Dream Team," with the acquisitions of Nnamdi Asomugha, Cullen Jenkins, Vince Young, Jason Babin, Ronnie Brown, and Steve Smith. The Eagles hope that getting all of these players will rocket the to the top of their division. Record-13-3

Dallas Cowboys- Last season was a disappointment, as the Cowboys were not able to play in the Super Bowl, which was hosted in Dallas. But with Jason Garrett at the helm, look for the Cowboys to forget last season and focus on this season. Record- 10-6

New York Giants- Remember when Eli Manning said he felt that he belonged in the same group as Tom Brady is in? Well, he's not even close. But that doesn't mean he isn't good, as he did defeat Tom Brady and the Patriots in 2008. However, the arrow isn't pointing up or down, so the G-men remain in the middle of the NFC East. Record 9-7

Washington Redskins- Mike Shanahan decided Rex Grossman should start in Week one. Grossman does think the Redskins will win the East, but I think they are far from it. Tim Hightower looks promising, and Santana Moss remains talented at the #1 receiver spot. But the only place the arrow pointing is up, but not by much. Record-6-10

NEXT TIME: NFC NORTH

NFL Regular Season PREVIEW

AFC WEST

San Diego Chargers- The Chargers have high expectations yet they cannot live up to that. Philip Rivers is the unofficial leader, with wideout Vincent Jackson his primary target. The Chargers weren't very active during the offseason, acquiring only 4 different players. They did lose running back Darren Sproles, and now look to Ryan Mathews for the rushing game. Record- 9-7

Denver Broncos- The Broncos need to find the star player to build around. Kyle Orton, and Knowshon Moreno are good offensive players, but not people to build your team around. Elvis Dumervil had an injury last season, so look for im to go after the QB. They did get Ty Warren from free agency, but they need more as this division is about equal with each other. Record- 7-9

Kansas City- They had a miracle season last year, coming from the dumps to the division title. Now I think they're back in the dumps. Acquiring Steve Breaston added some offense to help Dwayne Bowe, but nothing new has happened in the Kansas City camp. Record 7-9

Oakland Raiders- Everything is pointing upwards, as the Raiders look to improve. They did draft Terrelle Pryor in the supplemental draft. The Raiders may not replicate their 8-8 season last season, but they will make an effort to get as close as possible to that. Record 6-10

NEXT TIM: NFC EAST

9/1/11

NFL Regular Season PREVIEW

AFC SOUTH

Houston Texans- Matt Schaub looks to lead the Texans past the Indianapolis Colts, and this season, I think they can. With Pro Bowlers Andre Johnson and Mario Williams, look for the Texans to move past the Colts. On the downside, Arian Foster tweeted that he had an MRI and will be out for a few weeks. Record- 11-5

Indianapolis Colts- I predict Manning will be back at Week 3. Kerry Collins may not be able to jump-start the Colts, so i predict they will lose both games (not saying they suck or anything...). When Manning comes back, it might be too late. Record 10-6

Tennessee Titans- Chris Johnson doesn't look to be on the field week one. So the offense will be down, and look for the Titans to lose big on yardage. However, the future looks bright, with Jake Locker coming in, and young receivers Kenny Britt and Nate Washington. Record 6-10

Jacksonville Jaguars- Once they figure out who starts at QB, the only direction for the Jaguars is up. Maurice Jones-Drew is the only superstar on the team, so they need to figure out how to build around him. The Jaguars are stuck on the bottom again. And don't look for them to be ahead of any other team in the division. Record- 4-12

NEXT TIME: AFC WEST

8/28/11

NFL Regular Season PREVIEW

AFC NORTH
Baltimore Ravens: Joe Flacco is a rising NFL superstar, and with the additions of Lee Evans and Ricky Williams, the Ravens look sharp. However, they did lose Willis McGahee, and Todd Heap, and the defence isn't getting any younger. Record 11-5

Pittsburgh Steelers: Big Ben Roethlisberger looks to take the Steelers to another Super Bowl. Adding Jerricho Cotchery adds some offense, but nothing else has changed much. The AFC is getting tougher, and the Steelers should look to improve the offensive line, and add more players that can contribute significantly. Record: 9-7

Cleveland Browns: Colt McCoy seems to be the answer. With Mohamed Massaquoi back and practicing, this season looks bright for the Browns. They weren't extremely active during the offseason, but they did give a new contract to future Hall of Famer LT Joe Thomas. Look for the Browns to improve significantly. Record- 7-9

Cincinnati Bengals- Last season was a disaster for them. With Carson Palmer "retired," rookie Andy Dalton steps in. But nothing new has come around for the Bengals, so look for them to have another disastrous season. Record- 2-14

Next Time: AFC SOUTH

BK does it again

No. Not Burger King. Brad Keselowski, that is, winning at Bristol Motor Speedway. Ever since Brad broke his ankle during a practice session, he has been red hot, never finishing lower than 3rd in the past four races, also with 2 wins. He has more combined wins this season than Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, and Kurt Busch total. That's pretty impressive. Brad is almost 100% assured of a Chase spot, and Denny Hamlin holds the #2 wild card spot.

Other News:
NFL- Wes Welker left the Patriots and Lions game with a neck injury. The Lions took an opportunity to pounce, and seized the moment, winning 34-10

8/26/11

NFL Regular Season PREVIEW

So what should we expect from each team in the regular season, and what they should do? We break down each division and list teams in the order I believe they will finish.

AFC East
New England Patriots- Again. Obviously, the Patriots are not stopping now, and with the additions of Chad Ochocinco, re-signing Logan Mankin and Matt Light. And the Patriots drafted Ryan Mallet, to seek back-up QB or to rest players before the next game. Record-12-4

New York Jets- Getting Nnamdi Asomugha would give the Jets the best secondary in the league. Unfortunately, he went to Philadelphia. They did mange to sign Plaxico Burress, who was released from jail after spending 22 months in jail. They also signed Aaron Maybin, to help with defense after Shaun Ellis went to New England. Record-10-6

Miami Dolphins- They need to find a QB. Chad Henne is a decent QB, but is he the long-term solution? They also signed Matt Moore, who struggled with the Carolina Panthers. Either one of them should give the ball to one of their star players, Brandon Marshall. Record-5-11

Buffalo Bills- The Bills haven't see much outside of last place. They need to find the one player to build around, which none of the players seem to be able to answer that call. After dealing Lee Evans to the Baltimore Ravens, they dont have threats to the outside. All they can hope to see light from is C.J. Spiller, but he was a disappointment last season.  Record-2-14

Terrelle Pryor gets picked!

So we heard how Terrelle Pryor elected to be part of the NFL Supplemental Draft, but we didn't where he would be drafted, or maybe he couldn't have been picked at all. But when he clocked about a 4.36 on the 40-yd dash, that caught the eye of the Oakland Raiders, who prize speed the most out of all 32 teams in the NFL. Oakland has had trouble at the QB spot, with many unsuccessful play callers. They hope Pryor will be the franchise QB the Raiders have longed for.

Other News:
NFL- The Colts signed Kerry Collins, afraid Peyton Manning's neck would not recover in time. Collins had retired earlier this season, after playing 5 seasons with the Tennessee Titans. This will be his sixth team in 16 seasons.

NASCAR- Kyle Busch wins at Michigan, clinching a spot in the Chase. He leads the points by a mere 10 points over Jimmie Johnson. The biggest story this season, however, is Brad Keselowski, with a broken left ankle. He is 12th in points with a secure wild-card spot, and Has one win, a 2nd, and a 3rd in the 3 races he raced with his broken ankle. Look for Brad to make a big push in the Chase.

8/18/11

College Football

The University of Miami is being investigated for improper benefits for 72 players from 2002-2010. Convicted felon Nevin Shapiro told Yahoo! sports that he did provide players with money, cars, and other improper benefits. The death penalty could be given for Miami, which means their football program will be shut down for a year. The death penalty was issued once, to SMU in '87 and '88.

Other News:
NASCAR- Danica Patrick will move to Nationwide full-time with JR Motorsports. She also plans to run a few Sprint Cup races with Stewart-Haas Racing.

Sorry, we are testing a new template, but it needs to be fixed. I hope you will be patient with us as we fix it.

8/9/11

NASCAR

Despite having a broken left ankle, Brad Keselowski won at Pocono Raceway. With this win, Keselowski has 2 for the season, putting him atop the wild card standings, with the second spot going to Denny Hamlin. Kyle Busch finished 2nd, and his brother Kurt finished 3rd. After what Kurt did in Richmond, things started to turn around for Penske Racing. Brad won at Kansas and now Pocono. Kurt Busch had 3 straight poles before winning at Sonoma.

With 5 races to go, drivers need to crack down to get in the wild card spots or solidify their current position in the Chase. The top 6 in the Chase look to be close to clinching, as Jeff Gordon in the 7th spot is 26 points behind Matt Kenseth. Tony Stewart and Dale Jr. are one point away from each other. Neither of them could afford to make a mistake, as Denny Hamlin might steal one of their spots.

Many surprises have occurred this NASCAR season. Here are my rankings in order of the most surprising things this season

1. Multiple first time winners

Who would have thought Trevor Bayne, in the first race of his career, could win the Daytona 500?! No one. But he wasn't the only one who won their first race of their careers. Here is a list:

Regan Smith (Darlington)

David Ragan (Daytona 400)

Paul Menard (Brickyard 400)

Trevor Bayne (Daytona 500)

2. Dale Jr. a Chase contender?

Yeah, we all waited for him to win a race. But good news for Junior fans, he is in Chase contention, 23 points ahead of 11th place Denny Hamlin. After making the Chase in 2008, he had never finished above 20th in points. This is a significant improvement after Hendrick Motorsports switched crew chiefs for Mark Martin, Dale Jr., and Jeff Gordon. It worked for Dale Jr. and Jeff Gordon, not so much for Mark Martin.

3. Former Chase contenders without wins or are not in Chase contention??

Some drivers that looked good last year could not repeat this year, such as Greg Biffle, and Clint Bowyer. Greg Biffle had 2 wins last season, as did Clint Bowyer. Clint was really good early in the season, but fell into a slump lately. Greg Biffle changed crew cheifs, but that didn't work out either.

4. Red Bull pulling out of NASCAR?

Red Bull hasn't been as successful in NASCAR than in Formula 1, with Sebastian Vettel. Brian Vickers made the Chase for Red Bull once, but ended up last. Before this season, he had blood clots, and missed 2009-2010, and was replaced by Scott Speed, who did not produce. This is bad news for some drivers such as Mark Martin, since this was a possible destination for him after he was told he will be replaced by Kasey Kahne.

Remember to watch the Chase to see if JJ gets knocked-off!!

8/3/11

Are the Eagles the new Miami Heat?

We all remember when LeBron James announced on public television that he would take "his talents to South Beach." So much for that, as the Heat failed to win a championship with the new Big 3 consisting of Lebron, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. Now this NFL offseason, many players are flocking to the Philadelphia Eagles's training camp. Some of the free agents that signed with the Eagles turned down higher offers from other teams and went to Philly to play.

This offseason, the Eagles acquired Nnamdi Asomugha (Raiders), Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (Cardinals), Vince Young (Titans), Cullen Jenkins (Green Bay), and Ronnie Brown (Miami). Adding great corners shuts down wide receivers. Cullen Jenkins will help Trent Cole to get sacks on the defensive line, and Vince Young could help Michael Vick as no speed and throw skills are sacrificed. Ronnie Brown has the experience and will guide help the Eagle's running game. Only time will tell if all these free agents made the right choice.

8/1/11

NFL

Randy Moss decided to retire after 13 seasons in the NFL. Randy Moss was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings 21st overall, from 1998 to 2004. Then in 2005, he found himself in Oakland from '05-'06. After that, he landed in New England, where he was part of the record breaking season, with the Patriots wining all 16 games of the regular season. Tom Brady passed for 50 touchdowns in 2007, and Moss caught 23 of them, another record. After Moss was not producing in 2010, the Patriots dealt him to back to Minnesota. He was not producing there either, and then found himself in Tennessee. He did not fare as well there either. Moss has traveled a lot in his career, but his stats should get him a Hall-of-Fame ballot. Here are some of Randy Moss's best plays:

7/31/11

NFL

Plaxico Burress singed with with the New York Jets. He agreed to a one-year, 3 million dollar deal. The teams in the running were the Jets, Steelers, Giants, and 49ers. The Jets felt a bit beter after losing out on Nnamdi Asomugha.

Other News:
NASCAR- Paul Menard wins his first career race at the Brickyard 400. This is the fourth time this season where one driver won his first career race at a major race. Trevor Bayne (Daytona 500), Regan Smith (Darlington, finished 3rd at Brickyard), David Ragan (Coke Zero 400) and now Paul Menard at Indy.

MLB- Ubaldo Jimenez was traded to the Cleveland Indians for three minor league players. Jimenez, who had a breakout season last year, hasn't been able to reproduce that for the Rockies this season, with a 6-9 record and a 4.46 ERA.
Also, the Phillies manage to get Hunter Pence from the Astros. The Phillies needed a right hand hitter after they lost Jayson Werth.
Losing out on Pence, the Braves trade for Michael Bourn. Michael Bourn is some added offence after Brian McCann was injured and Chipper Jones has not produced.

7/29/11

NFL

BREAKING NEWS
Nnamdi Asomugha agrees to a 5-year 60 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Asomugha was not re-signed by the Raiders because he did not meet the stats expected of him on his contract. This is a problem for the Eagles, however, as they acquired Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie recently, and they have Asante Samuel, who has not attended training camp yet.

Other News:
NASCAR- Travis Pastrana's debut in NASCAR will be on hold as be broke his foot during the X-Games 17. Pastrana was scheduled to race this Saturday.

More NASCAR- Some rumors say that Carl Edwards may join Joe Gibbs Racing. It was reported that he will be in the #20 car of Joey Logano, so it may me Joey will be out at Joe Gibbs. If Carl does join Gibbs, that will form an elite group of Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Carl.

NBA- The Detroit Pistons are giving Lawrence Frank the chance to lead a team in ruins back to playoff contenders. Frank was the New Jersey Net's head coach from 2004-2009, which he went 225-241.

NFL

Lots of trades are occurring in the NFL after the lockout was lifted, and some teams acted quickly. The New England Patriots traded a 5th round pick for Albert Haynesworth. The Patriots were last on 3rd down stoppage, so Haynesworth, Vince Vilfork, and Ty Warren will make an impact in that situation. The Patriots also acquired Chad Ochocinco after he took a three year deal offer from them.
The Minnesota Vikings traded for Donavan McNabb. This is the third time he was traded in 3 seasons. The Miami Dolphins traded for Reggie Bush. Reggie Bush was one of the biggest disappointment for Saints fans as he never was a Pro-Bowler and never rushed over 600 yards. Since the Saints traded a Running Back, they had to get another to fill the roster. They signed Sam Diego's Running Back Darren Sporles, a really good kick returner/punt returner. The Eagles dealt Kevin Kolb to the Cardinals, who are looking for a decent QB after Kurt Warner retired. In return, they gave the Eagles Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second round pick. The Eagles need some added defense to help against division rivals the Cowboys, Redskins, and the Giants. The Seahawks added some offense as the signed Sidney Rice for 5 years.

Other News:
NFL- Plaxico Burress was reinstated as a player in the NFL by Roger Goodell.

U.S Men's soccer- Coach Bob Bradley was dismissed as coach.

7/12/11

MLB

Robinson Cano wins the Home Run Derby, one home run ahead of Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez won the first round, and Cano took the second, each leading each other by one run. In the last round, Cano and Gonzalez were tied and Cano was up at bat. He hit a homer, and him and his dad celebrated. Here is the order that the batters finished:
Robinson Cano- 32
Adrian Gonzalez-  31
Prince Fielder- 9
David Ortiz- 9
Matt Holliday- 5
Jose Bautista- 4
Rickie Weeks-3
Matt Kemp- 2

7/11/11

MLB

Now that we are at the All-Star break, let's recap the events prior to the All-Star game

Winners:
Boston- Started out losing their first few games. But with Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz, Jon Lester, Josh Beckett,  and Jonathan Papelbon dominating, they now hold the division lead, one game over the Yankees

Pittsburgh- This is the first time they had a winning record since the 1992 season, and they made it to the playoffs that season. Andrew McCtuchen has been the leader, and he is now in the All-Star game. Even with this record, they are still in third behind the Cardinals, and the Brewers.

Losers:
Minnesota- With Joe Mauer out early in the season, they are only 41-48 with the Detroit Tigers and the Indians battling for the divisionlead.

Colorado- Last year, they had a potential Triple Crown winner in Carlos Gonzalez, and Troy Tulowitzki had a hot bat a the end of the season. This season was the complete opposite.Carlos Gonzalez had an injury, and so did Tulowitzki. Hopefully Todd Helton and Huston Street can help turn it all around

Chicago Cubs- 'nuff said

LA Dodgers- They are on a 4 game winning streak, but this is the losers side. Frank McCourt, the owner, is having trouble. He tried to get a TV deal to help the Dodgers club stay afloat, but it was turned down.

Surprises:
Matt Kemp- He has 22 home runs at this point, with 28 last season total. No one expected this power from him, like how no one expected Jose Bautista to hit 50 home runs last season.

Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Cleveland Indians, and the Milwaukee Brewers-  These are all turnaround teams. Last season, they all had losing records, with Arizona, Washington, and Pittsburgh last in their divisions.

Milestones:
Derek Jeter- Earning his 3000th hit recently. He homered off of David Price, making him only the second person to do so. He is the only Yankee to reach 3000 hits, with legends Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, and Mikey Mantle in his rear view mirror.

Jim Thome- Not quite a milestone yet, but he has 595 career home runs. With 5 more, he will join the 600 home run club.

Mark Teixera- He is halfway to 600 as he hit his 300th.

Hopefully we will see more action in the second half of the season! Watch the All-Star game tomorrow!! If you have any opinions, please leave a comment. Offensive or inappropriate comments will be deleted.

MLB

Congrats to Derek Jeter, reaching 3000 hits in his career. Derek Jeter hit a home run off of David Price to earn his 3000th hit. The lucky fan earned season tickets and autographs. Jeter went 5-5 on the day, and getting the game winning RBI. Jeter is the 28th player to reach 3000 hits, but he is the first Yankee to do it, unlike Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Yogi Berra. Last season, A-Rod hit his 600th homer.

Other news:
NASCAR- Kyle Busch wins the inaugural race at Kentucky Speedway. With this win, he is now the points leader, with Carl Edwards in 2nd and Harvick 3rd.

More MLB- Jered Weaver will start the All-Star game. He is the first Angel to do so since Mark Langston in 1993. Justin Verlander would have started, but the Tiger put him in on Sunday

Baseball

In the Texas Rangers game, a fan reaching for a ball thrown by Josh Hamilton, fell over the rail and fell 20 feet onto the ground, landing head-first. The man, Shannon Stone, was trying to reach for the ball to give to his son, but fell over. He did manage to say "please check on my son, make sure he's okay" before EMTs took him in the ambulance. I wish the best of luck to the Stone family.

NBA

With the lockout in effect, Deron Williams will most likely play in Turkey if the lockout doesn't lift before the start of the season. Pau Gasol may play in Spain. Sonny Weems has signed a deal with a Lithuanian team. With some NBA players playing overseas, some players may follow suit. But there aren't many teams overseas that can pay a star player like Williams or Gasol big bucks, so we may see a few more players leave to a different country.

NCAA Football

The Ohio State Buckeyes are vacating their wins from the 2010 season, including the Sugar Bowl win over Arkansas. This offseason for the Buckeyes has been disastrous, with the discovery of 5 players selling championship gear to a tattoo artist and receiving improper benefits. Jim Tressel took the blame, and then resigned.

Other News:
NBA- Yao Ming has decided to retire after 9 seasons. Injuries have limited his play, only 5 games in the 2010-2011 season after missing all of the 2009-2010 season

Cycling

Tyler Farrar is the first American to win a Tour de France stage on July Fourth. Farrar had to overcome a lot. He used to sleep 20 hours a day, and one of his closest friends, Wouter Weylant, had passed when he crashed at the Giro d'Italia.

Other News :
MLB- Derek Jeter returns to the Yankees's lineup. He is now on his quest to have 3000 hits in his career.

7/3/11

NASCAR

David Ragan gets his revenge as he wins at Daytona. In the Daytona 500, Ragan shifted lanes too early and was black flagged. Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne wrecked early and finished 41st. Carl Edwards, the points leader, was spun out and finished 37th, and gave up the points lead to Kevin Harvick, who finished 7th.

The Nationwide series was also just as exciting. KHI (Kevin Harvick Inc.) swept the first 4 qualifying spots with Clint Bowyer, Tony Stewart, Elliot Sadler, and Kevin Harvick. Danica Patrick was in the lead on the with 5 to go, but was passed by Salder being pushed by Stewart. On the front straight, there was a last lap crash, and the Sprint Cup also had one. Joey Logano was pushed by Kyle Busch, and won the race.

NHL Update

Jaromir Jagr has surprised many people and signed with the Philadelphia Flyers, close to Pittsburgh. The Flyers offered him 3.3 million, while the Penguins only offered 2 million.

Other News:
Tennis- Novak Djokovic has claimed the #1 spot on the world rankings. This is the first time someone else has claimed the top spot besides Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal since February 1st, 2004. Andy Roddick was the #1 before that.

NHL

The Penguins withdraw their offer to Jaromir Jagr of 1-year, 2 million. Jarmoir was drafted by the Penguins, and he helped them get 2 Stanley Cups. He is 39 years old, and if he took the 1 year deal, he would have retired with the team he started with. The Detroit Red Wings had interest in Jagr, but have also withdrawn from their offer.

NBA

BREAKING NEWS
The NBA is having a lockout, just like the NFL. The CBA expires at midnight. This lockout may last for the entire season, and the playoffs. Players will not be able to visit training centers, and not be able to contact any member of the coaching staff. The NBA had a similar lockout in 1998-1999 and the season was only 50 games. Also this year, rookies may not get a chance to show their talents and prove to people that they are good and are not busts. This now means that two of the 4 major sports leagues in America are locked out, and seasons will be short.

Other News:
Carson Palmer has reportedly moved out of his home in Ohio and may not be with the Bengals this season if there is a season. He did threaten to retire if he was not traded.

Crown Royal has left the Matt Kenseth #17 team. Roush Fenway has not signed Carl Edwards and Aflac to a new deal, and is also uncertain if UPS will stay with David Ragan

6/27/11

NASCAR

Kurt Busch dominated at Sonoma, lead 76 laps out of 110. He won his first career road course race and he won his first race of this season. Joey Logano won the pole. Tony Stewart spun out Brian Vickers, and later Brian Vickers paid back Stewart by spinning him into tires.

In the Nationwide series at Road America, Reed Sorenson won a dramatic race, with 3 green white checkered finishes. The caution came out after the third, and the race would end when the leader passed the start/finish line. Justin Allgaier, the leader, ran out of fuel. So Reed Sorenson passed him, and Ron Fellows, in third, passed Sorenson under caution, which was not right, so Sorenson won the race.

6/21/11

NASCAR

Red Bull Racing is pulling out of NASCAR, sources say. Red Bull has been the primary sponsor for Kasey Kahne and Brian Vickers. But they are also a racing team, so they're leaving two cars unused. Red Bull has been doing well in F1, but it took a long time to get there. They spent five times as much in F1 than in NASCAR to get to the top of the sport.

6/20/11

MLB

Is Major League Baseball going to re-align its conferences? The National League has 16, while the American League has only 14. The real debate is which National League team will move to the American League. I think the Padres may be moved, to increase rivalries and good games in California, with the LA Angels and Oakland A's. Or Cincinnati could be moved to increase rivalries between the Cleveland Indians. It still is unknown which team will move, but those are my predictions.

6/19/11

NASCAR

Denny Hamlin wins his first race at Michigan International Speedway. Kurt Busch won the pole. Greg Biffle led the most laps, but finished 15th. Late in the race, Dale Earnhardt Jr. hit the wall, bringing out the caution with 10 to go. Denny Hamlin took the lead on the restart. On the last lap, Matt Kenseth was charging hard, but nearly wrecked his car but saved it, giving Hamlin the win.
The Chase will come fast, and drivers need to start getting good consistent finishes. Many drivers who were thought to be contenders and are not include Jaime McMurray, Joey Logano, David Reutimann, Jeff Burton, and Brian Vickers. Many are also in danger of missing the Chase, including Greg Biffle, Tony Stewart, and Mark Martin. Jeff Gordon is almost assured of a Chase Wild Card spot, securing two wins this season, and the second spot will be given to Tony Stewart, unless Brad Keselowski moves into the top 20 in points. The top 10 in points are:
Carl Edwards:532
Kevin Harvick: -20(behind)
Dale Earnhardt Jr.: -27
Kyle Busch: -29
Jimmie Johnson: -29
Matt Kenseth: -41
Kurt Busch: -41
Ryan Newman: -76
Denny Hamlin: -77
Clint Bowyer: -77

6/16/11

NHL

The Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup Final, their first since 1972. Tim Thomas was outstanding, saving 37 goals, while Roberto Luongo save only 17 and allowed 4 goals go into the net. Now all major sports teams in Boston have won a championship the 2000s, The New England Patriots (2002, 2004, 2005), the Boston Celtics (2008), The Boston Red Sox (2004, 2007), and the Boston Bruins (2011).

After the game, fans in Vancouver started a riot. The flipped cars, set things on fire, and reports of stabbing were also present.

6/14/11

NBA

The Dallas Mavericks take the NBA title for 2010-2011. Only four players remained from the 2006 match-up, and those players remembered it well, especially Dirk Nowitzki, who was the Finals MVP. This championship was the first for many players, including Jason Kidd, Dirk, and many more. Many consider the Miami Heat's season to be a failure when they acquired  LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and re-signed Dwayne Wade. Many criticized LeBron's decision to leave Cleveland, and many despised him for it.

Blog Milestone

Today, I discovered that one of my countries has finally reached 100 views. Thank you Great Britain!!

6/1/11

NBA

The Miami Heat defeat the Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA finals, 92-84. The Big 3 were dominant, scoring most of the team's points. The Mavericks led at halftime, but the Heat came back and won the game. The Maverick's bench struggled, scoring only 17 points while Miami's bench scored 27.

5/30/11

Racing

The Memorial Day Weekend races were full of excitement. First in the Indy 500, JR Hildebrand, the 23 year old rookie, crashed into the wall, giving the lead and win to Dan Whelen. In NASCAR, lots of drama, including many blown engines, and lots of car wrecked in the longest race scheduled. With 2 laps to go, Dale Jr. takes the lead, but runs out of fuel on turn 4, and gives the win to Kevin Harvick. Both Earnhardt and Hildebrand both were wearing the National Guard sponsor, and both had a problem on the last lap and last turn of the race.

5/29/11

NBA

The NBA draft is coming up, and the picks are all set. The Cavaliers have the 4th and the 1st pick, nut are pushing a trade to get the 2nd pick with the Pistons, and the Timberwolves. They say the deal will involve Richard Hamilton, which the Pistons have been trying to get rid of for a long time.

5/22/11

NASCAR

Carl Edwards takes home the million dollars in the Sprint All star race. Greg Biffle won 25 grand in the First segment,  Segment, and the rest was all Carl. Kyle Busch, who won the pole, finished 2nd. Clint Bowyer, who started 2nd, finished 16th.

5/17/11

NASCAR

Matt Kenseth won his second race at Dover on Sunday. It was really rainy, for both Nationwide and Sprint Cup. Since qualifying was rained out, the person with the fastest practice time got the pole. In this case, Jimmie Johnson. The Sprint Cup race wasn't as exciting as it might have been at the Monster Mile, but the Nationwide race was filled with drama, including a last-lap crash involving many cars, including Joey Logano, Clint Bowyer, Steven Wallace, and Brad Keselowski. Carl Edwards remains the points leader.

NBA

The Conference finals are just getting started, with the Mavericks and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the West and in the East, the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls. This will be interesting to see if the Thunder can pull it off and the Heat making the Finals with Lebron, D-Wade, and Chris Bosch together.

5/13/11

NBA

Nearing the end of the second round, there was a shock when the Lakers were swept by the Mavericks. The Heat beat the Celtics 4 games to one, and the Bulls have a 3-2 lead over Atlanta, and Oklahoma City has a 3-2 game lead over Memphis. There is lots of questions for the Lakers to answer, including "Where will Phil Jackson be after this season?" And "Is Andrew Bynum staying?"

5/8/11

NASCAR

Regan Smith wins his first career race at Darlington. Carl Edwards finished 2nd, and Brad Keselowski finished 3rd. The biggest story, however is the Kevin Harvick Kyle Busch feud. Last year at Homestead, Harvick wrecked Busch in Homestead last year, the last Chase race of the season. Now they go into each other again, and NASCAR is evaluating this incident and the Montoya and Newman confrontation

5/1/11

NBA

The second round has begun, with the Grizzlies defeating the Thunder in Game 1. The Miami Heat also win against Boston, a series to definitely watch. The thing that is the most surprising is the Griz are on a winning streak.

NASCAR

Kyle Busch stretches his fuel mileage to win at Richmond. Denny Hamlin spilled some tips to his teammates, and Kyle used Denny's own words against him. There were only 9 cars on the lead lap, Tony Stewart being the last on the lead lap, and Brian Vickers the first a lap down. Carl Edwards remains the points leader ahead by 9 points over Jimmie Johnson

4/30/11

NFL

Breaking news: The Lockout is now active again. It was active during the 2nd round of the draft. More on this story here:http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=6451701

NFL

Round 2 had some obvious things occur such as the Bengals taking Andy Dalton and the 49ers take Colin Kaepernick. The biggest surprise was Da'Quan Bowers slipping all the way to 51st

4/29/11

NFL

The draft definitely had surprises, including the Titans selecting Jake Locker, The Vikings selecting Christian Ponder, and Nick Fairley sliding all the way to the Lions. Also, there was some confusion with the Ravens. They traded picks with Chicago, but Chicago never reported it and the Ravens didn't get a pick. Watch the second round at 6:00 tonight!

4/28/11

NFL

The draft is tonight! Be sure to watch at 8:00 p.m. tonight! At least watch the first round to see where the good prospects go.

Playoffs

So we are nearing the end of the first rounds for both the NHL and NBA, and the only NBA team that got swept was the New York Knicks, and the only NHL team that got swept was Phoenix. Series to watch: Boston vs Miami (NBA) and Philadelphia vs Boston (NHL)

4/26/11

NFL

The lockout is officially lifted. Most teams aren't letting their players workout yet. This is good news for fans because now they can see games without worry. Also, the draft is nearing closer. Be sure to at least watch the first round!

4/17/11

NASCAR

Talladega is always fun to watch. Today was no exception as Jimmie Johnson beats Clint Bowyer by .002 seconds, tying the closest finish in NASCAR history. The top six drivers were within .1 of each other, which was very exciting to see. Carl Edwards remains the points leader as he finished 6th.

4/10/11

NASCAR

Matt Kenseth wins at Texas, ending his winless streak of 76 races. Texas was good for Roush Fenway Racing, when David Ragan qualified on pole, and Matt winning the race. Carl Edwards finished 3rd, keeping him at the to of the points standings. Polesitter David Ragan finished 7th. Greg Biffle finished 4th

Baseball

So its been a few games for teams, and there are many surprises like Tampa Bay and Boston only winning their first game recently. Other surprises are Baltimore and Cleveland Lead their divisions, especially Baltimore because of powerhouses like New York, Tampa, and Boston.

4/5/11

NCAA Basketball

UConn prevails as they defeat Butler in the Championship game. Jim Calhoun becomes the oldest coach to ever win the title. Butler lead after the half, but UConn took over, going on a 22-3 run. Jim Calhoun now joins an elite group of coaches that won more than 3 titles. For the second year in a row, Butler slips and loses the championship

4/4/11

NASCAR

Kevin Harvick wins his second race in a row, passing Dale Earnhardt Jr. with 4 laps to go. Denny Hamlin was clearly the favorite, but pit strategy backfired. Kyle Busch dominated, only to be passed late again to lose the race. Busch has been passed late and lost to Jeff Gordon, and Kevin Harvick twice.

4/3/11

NCAA Basketball

UConn escapes Kentucky 56-55. Kemba Walker was dominant, with 9 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds in the first half. But Kentucky made a run with multiple 3-pointers in the second half, cutting the lead to single digits. But the key was the Kentucky only made 4/12 free throws. Now UConn faces Butler for the notional title. Butler wins!

4/2/11

NCAA Basketball

Butler advances to the Championship round for the second year in a row, defeating VCU 70-62. Butler was denied their championship last year against Duke. This year may be no easier as Kentucky or UConn will take on the Bulldogs.

3/28/11

NCAA bascketball

So the Final 4 is set. It features No. 3 Connecticut, No. 4 Kentucky, No. 8 Butler, and No. 11 VCU. For No. 3 UConn against Kentucky, my pick would be UConn because of their man Kemba Walker. He is one of the best players in the NCAA in my opinion. For VCU and Butler, Butler moves on again to the championship round. My pick for the Champ? Butler redeems themselves after losing to Duke last year.

3/27/11

NASCAR

Kevin Harvick passes Jimmie Johnson on the last lap to steal a victory at Fontana. Kyle Bush dominated early, but there wasn't enough at the end.
Updated Standings:
1. Carl Edwards
2. Ryan Newman -9
3. Kurt Busch -104.
4. Kyle Busch -11
5. Jimmie Johnson -14
6. Tony Stewart -17
7. Paul Menard -23
8. Juan Pablo Montoya -26
9. Kevin Harvick -30
10. Matt Kenseth -30

NCAA bascketball

Butler reaches the Final 4 for the second year in a row, defeating Florida in overtime. Last year, Butler went in the championship game against Duke, and nearly won the game as Gordon Hayward nearly made the half court shot. But now no number 1 seed remains, so Butler may have a chance this year

3/26/11

NCAA bascketball

Kentucky defeats the last No.1 seed, Ohio State, on a game winning shot from Brandon Knight. This was a good game, a lot of back and forth shooting. Now Kentucky moves on to the Elite Eight, against the powerful North Carolina. That will be another good game.

3/20/11

NASCAR

Kyle Busch completes the sweep of Bristol with his win. Bristol seems to be Busch's home track as he has won the last 5 Bristol Races in all three series. His brother Kurt has the points lead, followed by Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman and Paul Menard

NCAA basketball

Butler stuns Pittsburgh in an amazing finish. With 2.2 seconds left, with Pittsburgh inbounding, a player gets fouled and makes 1 free throw. BUT on the second free throw, he misses, and a Butler player gets the rebound, but HE gets fouled. He makes the free throw to upset Pittsburgh and me because now my braket's COMPLETELY messed up, including my final 4.

3/19/11

NASCAR

After the break, Carl Edward kept his momentum and grabbed the pole for Sunday's race. His Roush teammate Greg Biffle help Jack Roush's team sweep the front row. His team was really good in qualifying as David Ragan qualified 5th, and Matt Kenseth just missed the top 10 with an 11th place start. It will be exciting at Bristol (as usual :))

3/18/11

NBA

There are many new free agents projected to be on the market including Tim Duncan, Jamal Crawford, Zach Randolph, Caron Butler, and possibly Derrick Rose, Russel Westbrook, Kevin Love and Brook Lopez. Carmelo Anthony will not be available because he signed a contract with the Knicks almost as soon as he was traded. Many other free agents in 2012 are Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Steve Nash, and Deron Williams could be on the free agent list in 2012

3/15/11

NCAA basketball

March Madness starts this weekend. Many teams battle for the national championship. I don't think i'm going to make a bracket, but i have my predictions for the National Championship. I will say my final four. Ohio State, Texas, Purdue, and Pittsburgh

3/12/11

NFL

The NFL lockout has begun as multiple players filed lawsuits agains the NFL including Pro Bowlers Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees, and more including an NFL prospect. The NFL is trying to work it out, but the players are unhappy.

3/8/11

NFL

Can you believe Tiki Barber wants to play football again? Its amazing how he left the Giants to do TV reporting and now he wants to come back? He's almost 36, so he may just leave in about 2 years (All assuming he gets signed) I don't see where he'd fit in, maybe to a team like the Bills or any other team that needs running back support

3/5/11

NBA

In Tony Parker's return from injury, the Spurs pound the Heat 125-95. Manu Ginobli scored 20 points as the struggling Miami Heat are defeated. The Spurs remain the top team in the NBA with a 51-11 record, a 51/2 game lead over the Mavericks.

2/23/11

NBA

The Nets have decided to trade for Deron Williams. The Jazz get Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, 2011 1st round pick, and a 2012 pick (from Warriors). Deron Williams was averaging more than 21 points per game, a career high. The Nets missed out on Melo, but got someone else who was almost as good.

2/22/11

NBA

The Nuggets have decided to trade Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks along with Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman, Anthony Carter, and Sheldon Williams. The Nuggets get Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgof, Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler. The Minnesota Timberwolves were also involved in the trade, receiving Eddy Curry and Anthony Randolph. The Knicks get Corey Brewer from Minnesota.

2/21/11

NBA

The West defeats the East in the All Star game 148-143. Kobe Bryant dominated, earning the MVP for the All Star game. LeBron James had a triple double, but the West held him off as they won. The West is now 21-31 against the East, and Kobe wins his 4th All Star MVP

2/20/11

NASCAR

Trevor Bayne shocks everyone by winning the Daytona 500. He became the youngest driver ever to win the 500. The 500 proved to be a lot different with the new surface, a lot of wrecks. At then end of the race, Carl Edwards with David Gilliland pushing made a charge, but Bayne blocked them and took the win.

2/18/11

Baseball

Albert Pujols's contract has not been reached as Pujols asked for a 10 year deal and the Cardinals only offered him 8. Albert Pujols wants a contract similar to Alex Rodriguez, who makes almost twice more. They have been performing about the same, so thats one big reason on why Pujols wants a bigger contract

2/14/11

NASCAR

Dale Earnhardt Jr. qualifies on pole for the Daytona 500. Jeff Gordon qualifies 2nd, which are the only 2 positions set. The rest of the field will be set after the Gatorade Duels. Also, during the race, NASCAR has asked fans to hold three fingers on lap 3 to honor Dale Earnhardt Sr., who was killed on the last lap of the Daytona 500 in 2001

2/9/11

NBA

The trade talks for Carmelo Anthony are heating up. The Knicks and the Lakers are interested in Carmelo, which the Knicks wanted Carmelo way before the Lakers did. The Lakers may trade Andrew Bynum for Carmelo. I think Melo would most likely go to the Knicks.

2/7/11

NFL

The Packers are the champions of Super Bowl XLV. The final score was 31-25. Aaron Rodgers was named Super Bowl MVP for his performance. The key play to the Packers winning was when Rashard Mendenhall fumbled the ball early in the fourth quarter. Remember, the Packers were on the verge of missing the playoffs in week 17, but the Bears let them win, and that decision haunted them as they were defeated by the Packers, and the Packers became champions. The Steelers, however, played very well as they overcame a 14 point deficit in the first quarter, but they didn't have enough for the end. It was hard fought, but the Green Bay Packers bring home the trophy that was named after their coach that won Super Bowl I, Vince Lombardi.

2/6/11

NFL

Tom Brady won the NFL MVP. He had 36 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions, which is a 9-1 touchdown interception ratio, which got him all 50 votes for MVP. That is amazing, but remember his first MVP was 49 votes, the 1 going to Brett Favre.

NFL

The Super Bowl is tonight! I'm excited. But some people aren't. On the radio, I heard the DJs saying they don't care for the game. They want to see the commercials!!! That defeats the whole purpose of watching the Super Bowl. Well, anyway, have a party, be with friends, and don't drive drunk

2/1/11

NASCAR

The new points system is a lot different from the point system used before. Points are awarded like this
1st- 43
2nd-42
and so on
1 point for leading a lap, and another point for leading most laps
3 points for winning the race
10 Chase qualifiers and two drivers with the most wins

1/27/11

NFL

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers face off in Super Bowl 45. The Steelers have the advantage with the majority of the team has been to a Super Bowl, as opposed to the Packers. I think the Packers have the offensive advantage, and their defense is a little bit behind the Steelers' defense. I think Troy Polamalu is the key player for the Steelers and Aaron Rodgers for the Cheese Heads

My Pick- Green bay 35 Pittsburgh 30

1/24/11

NFL

The Packers defeat the Chicago Bears 21-14. The Packers dominated, and ending another game with an interception. The Packers also become the first 6th seeded team ever to reach the Super Bowl. The Packer's defense shut down Chicago. Looks like Obama won't be going to Dallas.

1/16/11

NFL

The Jets defeat the Patriots 28-21. They stunned everyone, including me (because i'm a Pats fan). The Jets made some history as the are the first team since 2001 to defeat the Colts and Patriots back-to-back. The Jets also recorded 5 sacks against Tom Brady, a Jets record. Now they face the Steelers in the Conference round game.

NFL

The Chicago Bears defeat the Seattle Seahawks 35-24. The Bears had the lead, and never lost it. The Seahawks made a comeback, but it wasn't enough as the Bears roll on to face the Packers in one of the biggest rivalries ever.

NFL

The Packers defeat the top seeded Falcons 48-21. Aaron Rodgers threw for 366 yards, while Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson had 8 catches apiece. Aaron Rodgers dominated, having more yards than the man before him, Brett Favre. The Packers are on the road once more to face either the Seahawks or the Bears. Green Bay really want to go to the Super Bowl.

1/15/11

NFL

The Steelers rally back from a 14 point deficit at halftime to win 31-24. Early on, the Ravens dominated, scoring 2 TD's in 27 seconds (1 Defensive). The Steelers used both of their challenges in the first quarter, which was really tough to handle. But the Steelers were determined to get to the AFC championship game, and came back to win.

Fail Plays

This is so bad you can't describe it

1/11/11

College Football

Auburn defeats Oregon 22-19 in the BCS title game. The key play to this game was when Auburn's running back thought he was down, but really wasn't and ran for 30+ yards. That gave Auburn a chance to win it. At the end, Auburn's kicker kicked a 19 yd field goal and won it for Auburn.

1/9/11

NFL

The Ravens destroy the Chiefs 30-7 in the wild card round. The Raven's defense forced 5 turnovers, and the Chiefs only had the 41 yd rush by Jamaal Charles for a TD. The Ravens face the Steelers in the Divisional Round. This game and the Patriots Jets game are both within their division, so it could get interesting.

NFL

The Colts lost too. I really wish they won so the Jets were out of the playoffs. But now the Patriots are facing the Jets, which the Pats will win (this may cause controversy). There are more games today as the Packers face the Eagles and the Chiefs against Ravens

NFL

The Saints lost against the Seahawks. I can't believe it. The Saints are defending Super Bowl champions and were the first team to lose in the playoffs! That is very depressing. I usually root for the underdog unless it's a Patriots game (Go Pats). I'm still sticking with the Steelers as the champions this year.

1/6/11

College Football

Andrew Luck has decided to return to Stanford despite the fact Jim Harbaugh will likely leave to the NFL. Luck would have been no.1 QB and overall, but he returned. It may not be a bad thing because look at Tim Tebow. He returned for his senior year and has been doing well for a rookie. That may be a sign for Luck that it may occur to him too. Or he could turn into Jake Locker.
